This is so fucking true, I relate with him on so many levels.
Shinji’s character really hits me close to home. I share many of the same fears, flaws, and anxieties that haters use as a prompt for ridicule. He may not be an ideal anime hero, but he’s one of the most realistic and deep characters I’ve ever seen in an anime.
I also think the only reason why people don’t hate on Asuka, who is an equally damaged and deranged character, just in a different way, is because she has sex appeal. She’s not really a good person. Of course, this series isn’t supposed to be about good people. I think a lot of people miss that.
